In a word, Penang food is both famous and fabulous. When people mention Penang food, they are more often than not referring to Hawker coffee and eat food. It is true that some of the hype is exaggerated but it can not be denied that Penang is home to many unique Chow delicious. Ironically, hawkers in other states or cities have been known to pull the crowd by simply advertising their food as a native of Penang, irrespective its authenticity or quality.In short, an infinite variety of dishes are yours to enjoy – everything you need to do is choose. Thank you in Chinese early migrants, Chinese cuisine ranges from Cantonese to Teochew to Hokkien to Hainan in Szechuan cuisine. There's also Penang Nyonya food, which is a combination Chinese, Malay and some Thai. The variety of Penang Nyonya food, apparently, is different from Malacca or even versions of Singapore. For touch of luxury, try a meal of five or ten Chinese classes at one of restaurants or hotels town.
Definition of Penang Laksa: A dish of rice and noodles in soup broth Spicy fish mackerel. Unlike the rich coconut awful version that you can find in Singapore (Katong Laksa), this dish is almost plebeian in comparison as the main ingredient in the broth is mackerel (ikan kembung) and "MASA" or sour tamarind. Besides these, there are ingredients that give Penang Laksa its distinctive smell and they include herbs like lemongrass, ginger flower (Bunga Kantang) blue ginger (lengkuas).
Typical toppings include mint, pineapple slices, chopped onion and a spoonful of Hai-ko, a thick sweet shrimp ketchup. This dish is typical in Penang and is well liked by the locals who eat at any hour of the day! Nasi Kandar is popular with Penangites famous, and many restaurants are selling well known not only for those on the island, but those in other states too. It is quite common to find people from other States, a trip to Penang just stop for a meal of Nasi Kandar before continuing their journey elsewhere … With fishing being an important economic activity on the island of Penang is naturally a haven for seafood, and a handful of restaurants have already acquired legendary status among locals and foreigners.
